IN THIS SESSION YOU WILL LEARN

Dr. Michela Bunn, Principal and President of the German School of Connecticut, shares her perspective on the importance of the German Saturday Schools. As most Saturday Schools have a dual language track program, one track for native speakers and one for German as a foreign language, we offer opportunities for families from all backgrounds. The ability to speak German will give you an edge in academic programs, undergraduate and graduate, as well as in the job market. If your family is from a German-speaking country and is planning on staying in the US, these schools represent the perfect solution for being immersed in American culture without losing the language and the traditions from your home country.

Saturday schools have a very high academic standard and administer several exams like the AATG (American Association for Teachers of German), IVA I and II (Internationale Vergleichsarbeit), DSD I and II (Deutsches Sprachdiplom) and offer exam preparation for AP German (Advanced Placement) and SAT-II German. At the same time, they complement academics with rich exposure to German/Austrian/Swiss communal life. Enjoy the celebration of the St. Martin Lantern Festival, Nikolaus, Karneval/Fasching/Fastnacht and come to our many other gatherings like our Weihnachtsmarkt and Maifeier.

The German School of Connecticut (GSC) was founded in 1978 and was the first school in the United States to offer the Deutsche Sprachdiplom II. It has also been designated a German Center of Excellence by the American Association for Teachers of German (AATG). The GSC is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.
