About the Speaker
Kerstin Haakenson is a committed educator and school leader who cares deeply about language learning and bilingual education. She has deep knowledge and experience in developing structures, curricula and materials for bilingual schools, as well as guiding the pedagogical development of teaching staff. She has more than 20 years of teaching experience, many as a teacher in bilingual schools in Germany and the United States. Kerstin brought her expertise to the German School Brooklyn in 2016, two years after the school was founded. She started as a classroom teacher and became principal in 2018. She loves working with the dedicated team at GSB, building and shaping this young school that will offer one of the most attractive international degrees in the world - the mixed-language IB in English and German. She is also the proud mom of a GSB first grader and a GSB fourth grader.
