About the Speaker
Mr. Hierath joined the German International School New York (GISNY) as the Head of School in August 2018. His education was already interspersed with several stays abroad, so it was no surprise to his family when he started planning for new adventures a few years after he started teaching. In 2006, he and his family moved to Namibia, Africa where he worked at a German school abroad. After five years, he and his family returned to Germany where he was named program director at the Johann-Gutenberg School in Bremerhaven and later, became head of school. In 2015, he continued his career as head of school at the Lloyd Gymnasiums Bremerhaven. The opportunity to now work at the German International School New York is a great honor for him and a task to which he devotes himself with great passion. At the same time, living in the metropolis of New York is a dream come true that he can share with his family.
About this session
Find out details on how the distinctive German/English bilingual education and rigorous curriculum open a world of opportunities for your child. And why children entering their Pre-K or Kindergarten programs are not required to speak or understand German and will build the foundation of being bilingual by first grade.
German International School New York (GISNY) as well as German International School Washington (GISW) will be available for detailed questions in breakout rooms after this presentation.
GISW and GISNY are the only schools in Washington and the tristate area accredited to offer their graduates both the NY State High School Diploma and the German International Abitur, a globally recognized diploma, which facilitates access to universities worldwide. Find out how the German International Abitur builds on the strengths of the traditional Abitur curriculum and adds a larger bilingual component.
